" 12 Ranch Wines" is a small family owned winery located in Bonanza, Oregon. We specialize in small, handcrafted lots of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah. Our grapes are hand picked from select vineyards in the Rogue Valley of Southern Oregon. We work very closely with all our vineyards through out the growing season, especially when it gets close to harvest. We must not forget that a great wine begins in the vineyard. Sugar, acid levels and when to harvest are just a few of the decisions our vineyards allow us to make. Discretion over the growing process, not “adjustments” during winemaking, let the grapes natural varietal flavor come through. Our wines reflect the true qualities of each vintage.
This wonderful fruit is brought to our facility in Bonanza, hand sorted into the crusher /destemmer and placed into stainless steel fermentation tanks. They are fermented, with the grapes, or cap being punched down by hand 3 times a day to keep skins wet and to extract that great deep dark color.
Next, we press the wine off the skins into oak barrels. The wine is aged in Hungarian oak barrels which adds to the complexity of the wine, but still allows the great flavor of the fruit to come through. Our wines are unfiltered and we use only gravity flow methods to gently handle our wines. With our small lot production we are able to pay close attention to each wine at every step of the way.
Wine making at "12 Ranch Wines" is a family affair. Ken and Connie Masten are the wine makers, sales team, and sanitation or clean up crew and best of all, in charge of tasting for quality control. Our daughter, McKenzie is the best helper of all. She loves "getting into her work" and can be found hauling stems away

This was and is the original write up for our Winery when we opened back in 2004. As in all parts of life time goes on! That cute little girl playing in the grapes is now all grown up and living in Portland Oregon. She is following her dreams and care path, but thankfully is still very involved with the Winery, our events and does all our graphic design work She will actually be home for the Memorial Day Open House. We also have another Australian Shepard, Quincy, here with us and boy does he love people, so plan on being greeted by him!

This delightful sparkling wine is perfect for summer. Crafted from Chardonnay, Pinot Meunier and Pinot Noir grapes grown in Sonoma's warm summer days and cool nights. Delicate aromas of ripe apple, toast and peach introduce you to a bubbly that's dry and fresh with a long elegant finish, possessing crisp citrus flavors with hints of strawberry and toasted vanilla.

Rated 90 points, Outstanding, by Wine Spectator, this Pinot Gris reflects the diversity of the Chehalem Mountains. The aroma is fresh and vibrant, showing stone fruits and ripe pear with hints of spring flowers and honeycomb. The palate is round with a weighted viscosity that lifts on the finish thanks to bright acidity. A beautiful white wine for a sunny day.

Named for the Six Spotted Lady Bug, this blend of Petite Sirah, Zinfandel and Malbec is an expressive and easy drinking red that has a vibrant, sweet bouquet of raspberry jam, caramel and cinnamon toast. Excellent oak integration provides silky tannins and spice to pair with Lodi's unrestricted wild berry fruit.

The Paso Robles appellation can experience a 50° temperature swing between day and night. This influence from the Pacific Ocean results in a Cabernet Sauvignon with rich fruit, full body and silky tannins, but with a firm backbone. Showing notes of black cherry, chocolate and vanilla. Flavors of blackberry and sweet spice emerge on the palate, captivated with velvety tannins and a long finish.

We finish with a special tasting of the “Voyage 7” of the Red Schooner. This Malbec is grown in the Mendoza area of Argentina, then brought back to the Caymus winery and made in the same style as their Napa Cabernet. The Voyage 7 equates with the 2017 harvest, which in the Southern Hemisphere, is half a year older than our 2017 vintage. This Caymus style Malbec opens with scents of dark, rich berries, with a whiff of jasmine and toasted oak. Layered and serious, the palate features flavors of cherries, plums, currants and pomace. A sustained vibrancy gives this wine backbone from entry to the lingering finish with a trace of unsweetened chocolate mingled with perfectly balanced lush fruit.

We start off with the crisp and vibrant Villa Wolf Rosé . Pinot Noir grapes, grown in the Pflaz region of Germany, experience a fuller growing season because the Haardt mountains protect the area from cold, wet Atlantic weather. This true rosé results from a brief contact with the skins for lovely color and complex berry notes. It is light and refreshing, with deliciously bright fruit flavors and a clean, zippy finish.

As early as 1531, the monks of the Abbey of Staint-Hilaire were making Blanquette de Limoux, France's first sparkling wine, preceding Champagne by more than a century. The grapes are grown in Limoux, at the foothills of the Pyrenees in Southern France. After undergoing a second, in bottle fermentation, then aging, the resulting Brut is dry, smooth and clean, with a fine bubble texture. The palate is light and crisp with faint notes of Fuji apple and citrus, backed by a creamy, toasty quality.

With the weather getting warmer, it only seems fair to revisit this complex and ornate blend with a 25 year history. Born from Charlie Wagner's habit of mixing wines to perfectly pair with a meal, this is blend of Viognier, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon and Canelli, with each contributing coveted characteristics. Balanced and nuanced with a variety of aromas and flavors, the culmination shows tropical fruits, minerality, rich body, wisps of acidity, and stone fruits. The creamy and soft palate the flows into a harmonious finish.

Peirano Estate Vineyards has a long history in Lodi. Forth and Fifth generation winemakers jointly craft a blend of Old Vine Zinfandel, Merlot, Petite Sirah and Cabernet Sauvignon. This rich and deep wine opens with aromas that are an opulent compendium of plums, blackberries and white pepper. The palate explodes with rich mouth filling blackberries, juicy red cherries, and plums. The long, seductive finish is filled with hints of toast and cola with firm, round, yet supple mouth filling tannins.

Made from select vineyard sites within the southernmost hillsides of the Alexander Valley. This wine is a true reflection of their passion for the noble Cabernet grape. The 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon is bold, full-bodied and rich. Dark in color, it displays mighty aromas of black cherry, cassis, wet stone and sweet oak. Rich and layered flavors of red currant, blackberry, dark chocolate and vanilla complement the firm tannins, gaining power as the wine moves across the palate. Structured, and powerful, this Cabernet lingers on the finish.

Bubbly white wines are everywhere, but what about sparkling reds? For this red, the blended grapes are traditionally fermented, then the wine undergoes a natural second fermentation in closed tanks to capture the effervescence of this spumante. A vibrant wine, it is introduced with aromatic notes of cherry, blackberry and red raspberry. The ruby color, a touch of sweetness and bright acidity make this bubbly red simply irresistible.

Col de' Salici, Italy
This spumante, or sparkling wine, is delightfully crisp and lively. Grown around Piave, Glera and Raboso grapes are vinified separately, then merged to reveal delicate flavors of ripe cherry and strawberry. The light body is smooth and textured with fine bubbles. Surprisingly dry and invigorating, the finish is long and refreshing.

Grown in the township of Agliano, at the Costamiòle vineyard, this pristine Barbera forgoes any oak influence, resulting in an intense, vivid red in color with deep aromas of dark red fruits. The body is vivid, delivering boysenberry and black cherry notes over hints of sweet spice. The fresh and harmonious fruit flavors support the light body, which make it very enjoyable in its youth.

This decedent, smooth and luscious wine is a Syrah based blend grown in Washington. One third undergoes whole cluster fermentation for added complexity and roundness, then all of it is oak aged for 10 - 12 months. This broody red wine rounded out with Merlot for a deeply layered body with blackberry notes backed by dark fruit, hints of violet and cocoa.

Created through a unique collaboration between Chateau Ste. Michelle and the Rhône's Michel Gassier, with Philippe Cambie, “The Convert” showcases the richness of classic Rhône-style wines, but grown and blended in the Columbia valley. Bright bramble aromas, with hints of spice. Blackberry and black cherry flavors on the palate, complemented by toasted oak with gentle American spice influence. The palate is plush and round with excellent length and finesse.

This Merlot based blend is described by winemaker Serge Laville as, “A blend focused on elegance and finesse. Herbal nose with hints of cassis and cherries. Lightly spiced, the texture is rich with velvety tannins and an ultra-long finish.” Wine Spectator rates it an Outstanding at 93 points with, “Sleek, expressive and well-built, with floral red currant and tomato leaf aromas, and harmonious cherry and pepper flavors that move toward refined tannins.”

Pike Road Pinot Gris, Willamette Valley, Oregon
This layered Pinot Gris uses a multi-vineyard approach to produce a more complex and flavorful wine. Clean and crisp on the approach, it yields to flavorful fruit notes that complement rather than dominate. The finish ebbs with stone fruit and minerality.
